Anna Gual (Vilafranca del Penedès, 1986) is a poet, cultural manager, and communications director. She currently co-directs the Barcelona Poetry Festival.
She holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from Pompeu Fabra University, a Master’s in Cultural Management from the University of Barcelona, and a Master’s in Communication and Marketing Management from ESIC. She has worked internationally in institutions such as the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Bien Urbain Festival in Besançon, and the Cinémathèque of Tangier, as well as at festivals such as the Most Festival (Penedès) and the San Sebastián Festival. She has been the communications director of AECAVA for the past ten years.
As an author, she has published eight poetry collections: Implosions (2008), L’ésser solar (2013), Símbol 47 (2015), Molsa (2016), El tubercle (2016), Altres semideus (2019), Ameba (2020), and Les ocultacions (2022), and in 2025 she will publish the anthology Jo tinc una mort petita. Poemes de dol per a la pèrdua d’una criatura. She has received several awards, including the Premi Pare Colom (2013), Bernat Vidal i Tomàs (2016), Senyoriu Ausiàs March (2016), Cadaqués a Rosa Leveroni (2019), and Miquel de Palol (2022).
Her books have been translated into several languages: French (Implosions, 2021; Occultations, 2025), Italian (Il tubero, 2022; Le Occultazioni, 2025), and Spanish (Las ocultaciones, 2025). She also has two anthologies of her works: Innombrable (Spanish, 2020) and Unnameable (English, 2025). Her poems have been translated into French, English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Galician, Spanish, Croatian, Slovenian, and Russian, appearing in various publications and on Lyrikline. Some, translated into English by Ann Kaiser, have been published in international journals such as Hyperion Magazine, Harvard Review, Poetry Magazine, Circumference Magazine, Four Way Review, Modern Poetry in Translation, Poetry International, and World Literature Today.
Throughout her career, she has participated in literary festivals, writer residencies, and poetry translation seminars in Italy, Croatia, Russia, France, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, and England. Her work explores nature, the body, mysticism, and writing itself, with a constant interest in image and language.
Several of her poems have been set to music by OMAC, Judit Nedderman, Anaïs Vila, Agnès Algueró, and Carola Ortiz. Between 2021 and 2022, she was the guest poet at the Palau de la Música Catalana, where she launched the project Llegats Vivents. She currently offers poetry recitals in various formats and has ongoing poetic-musical projects, A les palpentes and El gest diari, based on her poems.
In 2026, Els set somnis de Gaudí, a symphonic work by composer Olivia Perez-Collellmir with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, will premiere, for which Gual wrote the libretto and serves as the principal lyricist.
